Abstract:
In recent years, there has been rapid development in control and
manipulation of coherent quantum systems. These advances allow for the
study and utilization of coherent quantum phenomena as well as the
exploration of quantum mechanical concepts that were formerly of purely
theoretical interest. In this colloquium, I will start by introducing
different contemporary platforms for quantum simulation. I will then
introduce some basic concepts of topological phases of matter, and show
how they can be emulated in metamaterials of various wavelengths,
including photonic, phononic, and electric circuits. Last, I will
explain how such structures and control allowed us to realize signatures
of the 4D quantum Hall effect.
